Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 20, 2026
1. Who we are
Glean is operated by Howard Hunt, trading as Glean (the "Service"). For questions about this policy, contact getgleanapp@gmail.com.
2. What this policy covers
This policy describes how the Glean website (getglean.ai) and the Glean macOS application handle your data. They handle it very differently, so we cover each separately below.
3. The Glean website
The marketing website uses two third-party analytics services:
- Google Analytics (GA4) — measures aggregate page views, traffic sources, and basic device information. IP addresses are anonymized. Google's privacy policy.
- Meta Pixel — measures conversions from Meta ad campaigns. Tracks page views and purchase events. Meta's privacy policy.
These services set cookies and collect data per their own privacy policies linked above. We do not sell your data; we use these services to understand which marketing channels are working.
The site is hosted on Vercel, which logs standard CDN access (IP, timestamp, URL requested) per its privacy policy.
4. The Glean macOS application
The Glean app runs entirely on your Mac. It does not send your competitive research, ad analyses, video transcripts, or any user-generated content to any server we operate. There is no Glean server collecting application data.
The app makes three categories of network requests, all directly from your Mac:
- To Anthropic (Claude API) — when you click Analyze, each video frame or image is sent to Anthropic's API for analysis. This uses your Anthropic API key, billed to your Anthropic account. We never see your API key or your usage. Anthropic's privacy policy.
- To Facebook — when downloading ad videos via
yt-dlp, the app fetches the MP4 directly from Facebook's CDN, using your Chrome cookies so the request looks like a normal browser visit. Facebook sees the same activity it sees when you visit the Ad Library yourself. - To Vercel (our website) — once per day, the app checks
getglean.ai/version.jsonto see if a newer Glean version exists. This is a plain GET request — no identifier, no usage data, no telemetry. Vercel's standard CDN logs apply.
Your Anthropic API key and Glean license key are stored in macOS Keychain (encrypted by your login password). They never leave your Mac except when used to make the requests above.
5. License verification
When you first enter your Glean license key, the app calls Gumroad's license verification API once to confirm the key is valid. Gumroad logs this verification per their privacy policy. After initial verification, the app trusts the stored key — it does not re-verify on every launch.
6. Where your data lives
All data Glean generates — imported pages, gallery, downloaded videos, frames, storyboards, settings — stays in ~/Library/Application Support/Glean/ on your Mac. Uninstalling Glean does not remove this data; deleting that folder does.
We have no ability to access, read, or copy this data. It is on your computer.
7. Cookies
The marketing website uses Cookiebot as its consent management platform. The first time you visit, a banner asks you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Analytics and marketing cookies are blocked until you accept. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the small fingerprint icon in the bottom-left corner of any page.
The Glean app itself does not set or read cookies independently — when it makes requests to Facebook, it uses Chrome's existing cookies on your machine.

8. Your rights
You can:
- Decline non-essential cookies on first visit via the Cookiebot consent banner — Google Analytics and Meta Pixel will not load.
- Change or withdraw your consent at any time using the small fingerprint icon in the bottom-left corner of any page on this site.
- Ask what data Google Analytics or Meta have already collected via their respective dashboards or by contacting them directly.
- Delete your local Glean app data at any time by deleting
~/Library/Application Support/Glean/. - Contact us at getgleanapp@gmail.com with any privacy questions or data requests.
9. Data retention
We retain Vercel CDN access logs for as long as Vercel retains them (typically 30 days). Google Analytics retains user-level data for 14 months by default. Gumroad retains purchase and license verification records per their own policy. We do not maintain any other database of user activity.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where relevant, surface a notice on the website. Continued use of Glean after changes constitutes acceptance.
